July Nervous System Check-In ✻
(~4-minute read)
Welcome summer!
Last week was the summer solstice, the longest day and shortest night of the year. In Spain, we celebrate it on June 23rd, usually with fireworks on the beach, and I was lucky enough to experience this fun tradition again for the first time in years.
Summer naturally brings more daylight, more activity, and more stimulation. June may have shown you just how much your nervous system can hold, and hopefully, made you more aware of when your body needed recovery.
As we move into July, the challenge changes. It’s no longer about holding more activation, but about sustaining it as routines become less consistent.
Social plans increase, evenings stretch later, travel begins, and recovery often gets pushed aside. The risk this month is relying on willpower when your usual regulation habits quietly disappear.
Let’s dive in!
JULY INSIGHTS
By July, the nervous system has often spent months adapting to progressively higher activation.
Longer days, travel, social plans, and changing routines all increase the load on your nervous system. Without intentional recovery, background activation quietly builds, making it harder to stay focused, resilient, and emotionally flexible.
In Ayurvedic terms, July marks the beginning of Pitta's decline. Fire still supports performance, but months of sustained fire can leave the nervous system vulnerable to depletion.
This month, you might notice:
- Feeling capable but mentally "full"
- Less consistency with routines that usually keep you feeling well
- More impulsive decisions around food, sleep, or rest
- Needing more recovery than you think
This month's focus: Protect your regulation when your routine changes.
