October Nervous System Check-In âś»
(~4-minute read)
The end of September brought some big changes for me: I moved back to the US while launching the first round of my 30-day nervous system capacity training and planning a few more exciting things in the background.
I’m still surprised by how grounded, joyful, and calm I’ve felt through it all. The framework and practices I share every month in this newsletter help me create a full life and navigate uncertainty with more ease than I’ve ever felt before.
When I’m intentional about regulation, I can hold a lot while remaining calm. Nervous system work impacts so much more of our lives than most people imagine.
October brings cooler weather, shorter days, and for many of us, growing pressure to get things done before year-end. That can lead us to speed up just when we’d need space to settle.
The risk this month is letting year-end urgency become your everyday rhythm.
Let’s dive in!
OCTOBER INSIGHTS
As daylight decreases, the light cues that help regulate sleep and wakefulness change. Meanwhile, deadlines and year-end expectations may keep your mind working overtime. If your days stay full and recovery gets squeezed, you may find it harder to settle, switch off, or respond calmly to everyday demands.
In Ayurveda, October’s cool, dry autumn weather is associated with Vata season, characterized by movement and variability, and traditionally balanced with warmth, nourishment, and routine.
This month, you might notice:
- More mental chatter, even when your body feels tired
- Pressure to fit more into the final months of the year
- Tension from rushing between tasks
- Wanting rest but finding it difficult to settle
This Month's Capacity Focus: Softness and Structure
Create moments of calm within your day so you can sustain focus without carrying constant urgency.
